Christmas Delivered on a Harley

He’s often played one of TV’s bad guys, portraying malicious or stern characters that conjure up fear and apprehension.  But in real life he is a gregarious, warm-hearted man with a soft spot for people in need. Whether it be returning veterans traumatized by war or children and youth struggling to be reunited with their families, Robert Patrick, star of the CBS TV series Scorpion, has a heart for them and is prepared to use his celebrity to make good things happen for people in need.

Through an introduction made by his parish priest, The Rev. Canon Ian Elliott Davies, of St. Thomas the Apostle, Hollywood, Robert committed to doing something special for the children and youth of Hillsides. For the second year now he has organized a toy drive with the members of his Harley motorcycle group, Boozefighters MC Chapter 101, and delivered the presents accompanied by 100 motorcyclists. Needless to say, it was an exciting holiday event to welcome this noisy but cheerful caravan to the campus on Saturday, December 19. It was not just an opportunity for our residents to be impressed by motorcycles and celebrities but more importantly it demonstrated to them that they are not forgotten. They are cherished by a generous community that values them.

The holiday season is filled with many such events, generous people, and communities that recognize the needs of those we serve and are resolved to make a difference. We are so fortunate to benefit from such a generous and supportive community. It is because of such generosity that memories are created and will last a lifetime. The children, youth, and families we serve understand that no matter the challenge, this community stands along side them to support the restoration of hope in their lives.

We acknowledge not only actor Robert Patrick and the Boozefighters but indeed all those who have generously supported our holiday gift appeal. Your support has helped to make this holiday season special and memorable for all we serve.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the staff of Hillsides, we thank you for your extraordinary support and wish you a happy holiday season and all the best for the New Year.
